Startup Boost in Microsoft Edge
What is the Startup Boost feature and what are its benefits?
In the pursuit to overtake its competitors, Microsoft has created the Startup Boost feature which launches the Microsoft Edge browser much quicker than usual. The reason is that the processes associated with Microsoft Edge are launched in the background prior to launching the browser. This is similar to the manner cache files work in speeding up the loading of websites.
Will using the Startup Boost feature cause high CPU usage?
Microsoft claims that the processes initiated through Startup Boost are low-priority processes and won’t impact the overall functioning of the system. Such processes have a negligible impact on device resource usage. However, we can only tell once users start using the process and give feedback regarding the same.
How to enable Startup Boost feature in Edge?
To manage the Startup Boost feature, open this address in the address bar: edge://settings/system. Or you could navigate to the following path:
Launch Edge browserClick on Settings > SystemEnable “Startup Boost”
This setting will come with an ON/OFF toggle switch in the same manner you have for hardware acceleration. This is the same path you use to enable and disable the hardware acceleration. The Startup Boost feature should be available in all versions of Windows 10. However, the issue is that as of this date, this feature has not been launched and when it is, you would have to update your browser to access the feature. Will Startup Boost work on all devices?
Microsoft has made its intention clear that this feature won’t be available on all devices. Though it may be launched with many devices initially, once the company judges its impact on the devices, they will choose which ones to permit it with and which ones not to.
