Best Comedies On Netflix
Comedies are one of the most time-sensitive movie genres. Charlie Chaplin might be the best of his time, but few might laugh at his humor now. Thus, we have compiled the list of best comedies on Netflix for those watching in the lockdown/post-lockdown era. Here’s the list of the best comedies on Netflix:
1] The Main Event
This movie is straight out of one of my childhood dreams (which I believe many might have shared). 11-year-old Leo Thompson is the regular American school that manages a difficult academic life while escaping bullies. One good day, he discovers a magical mask that changes his life. The magic mask makes him super powerful, and thus he chooses to enter the WWE. Will he succeed in winning the main event or will his mask lose power on D-Day?
2] Malibu Rescue
Malibu Rescue is as much of an inspirational movie as much a comedy. It’s about this teenager named Tyler who isn’t among the most disciplined ones of his age. Tyler’s stepfather sends him to the Malibu Junior Rescue Program both as a punishment and a learning event. Tyler makes friends there, but as they say, birds of a feather flock together, his friends are as troublesome as him. The program director Garvin Cross has different plans though. Will Tyler and his team make it to the end of the program or will they fail?
3] Tall Girl
Tall Girl is a comedy movie, no doubt, but it’s a healthy mix of inspiration, romance, some pink stuff, and cuteness. Jodi, the main character is 6 feet 1 inch in height, which makes her the object of ridicule in her high school. Other problems aside, she is unable to find the best partner since most men don’t find tall girls attractive. An exception is her weird friend Jack, however, she has friend-zoned him and isn’t interested in the guy romantically. Will she find love? Even more, will she find confidence?
4] Matilda
Matilda is one time-tested movie. While I wouldn’t add the oldies in this list, please consider this an exception. Young Matilda is an intelligent and charming girl, though a little different and thus misunderstood by her parents and the immediate society. She is sent to school where she is lucky to find loving teachers and friends. However, the principal has a difficult personality. Time changes when Matilda discovers that she has secret telekinetic powers. How will she use these powers to handle her principal and will it help her stand up to society?
5] Paddington
A little young bear lost his home in Peru to an earthquake. Desperate for an alternate place to live, he reaches England. There, he is named Paddington after the train station and as an alternate residence, he finds a home at Henry and Mary Brown’s place. While the Brown’s are loving and caring for Paddington, he finds trouble elsewhere. An evil taxidermist named Millicent Clyde has her evil eye on poor Paddington. Will he be safe?
6] Pants on fire
Pants on fire is an amazing child comedy. 15-year-old Jack Parker is a compulsive liar. Strangely, he is good at it since people believe him. His lies bring him respect at home and popularity at school. However, the most expected starts happening when all of his lies start coming to life and he can’t believe that. Now, the only way to get over the problem is, to tell the truth, but he has a lot to lose with that. Will he open up or not?
7] The Guardian Brothers
Chinese culture is unique for its oriental and ancient heritage. In the medieval era, it was believed that guardian spirits helped humans with their problems. As society modernized, people changed their beliefs and progressed, except for a few. One such case was Luli’s grandmother who claims to have met the spirits. However, the grandmother doesn’t live long enough and her last wish is that Luli shall handle the shop. Are there any secrets to discover?
8] The Karate Kid (2010 film)
The Karate Kid (2010 film) is a part of the Karate Kid series, but a unique one. While bearing a tinge of comedy, it teaches a lot about discipline and maturity. The plot revolves around 12-year-old Dre Parker who shifts from Detroit to Beijing with his mother, only to be bullied by a local teenager. Will he surrender or fight back?
9] Duck Duck Goose
Duck Duck Goose is an excellent comedy movie for children. The story is of Peng, a goose with a difficult personality. His flock is migrating to China, which is typical of birds, but Peng is bound to create a mess. A pair of ducklings Chi and Cho also lose their way because of mischievous Peng. Obviously, the flock’s leader Bing is unhappy with the indisciplined goose.
10] Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back
The Pokemon series has a fan base of its own. Since the cartoon was launched, its cards, comics, etc. have been a rage among the young. However, since the Pokemon game was launched, the series became an addiction. Mewtwo strikes back if about a lab experiment that has gone wrong. Dr. Fuji creates a clone of Pokemon Mew and names it Mewtwo. The clone remains dormant for 7 months after which it wakes up to realize its importance is merely a duplicate. Angry over the fact, Mewtwo kills the professor and takes over his lab. What will happen next? Will Mewtwo rule, or will someone neutralize it? Did I miss your favorite?
